Private Sector Housing
The private sector can be a real solution to meeting ever increasing housing need. However this is only possible if we can develop relationships with landlords and lettings agencies, improve the condition of privately rented housing properties and keep rents at affordable levels. Promoting excellent maintenance and management standards will also improve the health of our communities and encourage people to use the sector and to benefit from the flexibility that private rented accommodation offers.
My experience includes:
- Empty homes – experience of establishing baselines for long term problematic empty homes and developing strategies to deal with them.
- Landlord forums – extensive experience of working with private landlords and letting agents in developing Forums and effective working partnerships.
- Landlord accreditation schemes – supported authorities to establish landlord accreditation schemes encouraging joint working with neighbouring authorities to deliver value for money.
- Strategy – Worked with one authority to develop a private sector housing strategy building on the work already being carried out and engaging with partners to establish the priorities for the district.
